In Million Dollar Baby Clint Eastwood played a typical role similar to his in Gran Torino. He is playing an angry old man again who trains and manages fighters, and eventually gives into training a determined annoying voiced girl. Again in this movie Clint eastwood plays a character who is not close with his family. This time he has a bad relationship with his daughter who he never writes, and in Gran Torino he had a bad relationship with his kids and there families, which makes him seem lonely in each film. Also like in Gran Torino Clint eastwoods character goes to church but doesn't seem to be religious, and his pastors tells him in this movie "I have no idea why you come to church".
In both the Clint Eastwood movies we watched now I noticed that violence, religion, race, and family were main parts to the story. In this movie the narrator says that "people love violence", this movie had a different kind of violence than Gran Torino, but its a focus in both movies. His character goes to church in each movie but isn't very religious. Race and racism was in both movies too. In Gran Torino it was the gooks and spooks, and in Million dollar the character Danger pointed out to a black fighter they're different. I dont know what Clint Eastwood is trying to say about in family maybe that without them your lonely or something, but in Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino he doesn't have much of a relationship with his family.

I also saw a lot of similarities between Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino, especially the ending, which is similar to Gran Torino in its unexpectedness and Eastwood's character "disappearing" in the end.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you luke that I think Eastwood is trying to make a statement in his movies about having good realationship with family is important. It seems in booth that when there is a bad rearionship or lack of one life is pretty rotten. I am curious if possibly in Eastwood's life he has had an experience that makes him promote this so much.
ReplyDeleteI was reading something about him and he said how family is important to him and comes before his job, but it also said that when he was married to some model back in the day that he was having affairs with many women while he was married to her. This seems weird though because in his movies he shows how it would suck to have a bad relationship with your family.
ReplyDeleteI think that he probably regrets the choice he made of having an affair and wrecking his family relationships and is trying to tell people through his movies not to make the same kind of mistake.
ReplyDeleteI think he divorced his wife too cause she was pissed he as having an affair, so maybe he was kind of like the lonely old man after that with no family like character he played
ReplyDeleteWell At least he had his son in his movie grand torino. That seems to indicat that he still has a relationship with his family. This might be an indication that be was able to fix his relationship recently due to his most recent movie. Maybe in his next movie he will not have the characteristics of a bad relationship in his next movie.
